Jim Merryman is the president and CEO for OFD Foods, LLC, based in Albany. OFD Foods is the largest diversified freeze-drying company in the world. In 1986 a small group of employees purchased Oregon Freeze Dry from Philip Morris and Jim was among the last of the shareholders. In 2016 he led the executive team in reaching an agreement to partner with Endeavour Capital, an Oregon-based company, and the company became a limited liability company.
Jim began working for Oregon Freeze Dry (as the company was then named) in 1974, initially in maintenance and production positions, while attending Oregon State University to pursue a degree in mechanical engineering. Merryman spent 17 years as a manager among several departments, gaining a comprehensive understanding of the company’s domestic and international business, before being promoted to vice president in May of 2001. In 2002 Merryman was appointed senior vice president and director, and in 2011 president and chief operating officer.
Jim served on the advisory boards for the OSU College of Business for 15 years, the LBCC Business Department for 24 years, and has served on the board of directors for the Linn-Co Federal Credit Union, NW Food Processors Association, and ViewPlus. He is the past chairman of the board of Research & Development Associates—an organization linking government, industry, and academia in the development of food and food rations for the military.
Currently Jim serves on the boards of Linn-Benton Community College, LBCC Foundation, and Samaritan Health Plans. He also serves on the Albany Area Chamber’s task force on Workforce Development.
He helped establish Albany’s youth soccer organizations and previously was the West Albany High School Varsity Boys Soccer Coach. He has also participated on various school board committees.
Jim and his wife Becky reside in Albany, and they have three children and four grandchildren.
